Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of knowledge and attitudes of nurses on patient safety in the emergency department of the Makassar City Hospital. The research design used is an analytical description using a cross-sectional study, namely the measurement of independent and related variables only once at a certain time. The results of the analysis of 20 respondents obtained the value of the analysis showing Good Knowledge of Patient Safety as many as 17 (85.0%) respondents, then Good knowledge data where Patient Safety is less as much as 1 (5.0%) respondents, and Lack of Knowledge of Patient Safety is less as much as 2 (10.0%) ) respondents. And obtained the analysis value showing good attitude with responsive Triage Action as many as 12 (35.3%) respondents. On the other hand, there are 17 (85.0%) respondents with good attitudes towards patient safety, then good nurse attitudes in which patient safety is less than 1 (5.0%) respondents, and less attitudes towards patient safety are 2 (10.0%) respondents. The results of the chi-square statistical test with the Fisher's Exact Test derivative obtained a calculated value > from the X2 table with a significant level of 0.016 <a=0.05 with a Computed table of 2x2 where the expected count of 75.0% has an effect. Thus Ho is rejected or Ha is accepted. The conclusion of the study based on the results of statistical tests showed that there was an influence between the Knowledge and Attitude of Nurses and Patient Safety variables in the IGD of Makassar City Hospital.
